Altus Power Management Completes Construction of Solar Array on Maryland Synagogue

(Greenwich, Connecticut) – Altus Power Management announced today the completion of construction of a 44,000-watt solar photovoltaic system on the roof of the Adat Shalom Reconstructionist Congregation in Bethesda, Maryland. Altus Power Management commissioned the solar array to immediately start producing clean, renewable energy. Kenergy Solar originated and developed the project and it was installed by S.H. Silverblatt Electrical Contractor, Inc.

This solar array includes 180 American-made panels and is expected to generate approximately 50,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity every year, accounting for 16% of the congregation’s current electricity usage. It is estimated that the CO2 emissions displaced by the new solar array will be equivalent to saving 4,251 gallons of gas annually.

Adat Shalom will enjoy clean energy at a discounted price for at least twenty years. As a result of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Altus Power, the congregation did not have to purchase the solar system, making this system not only an environmental benefit to the congregation, but a financial one as well. The completion of the project reflects the congregation’s vision and values of environmental responsibility.

Altus Power Management owns the solar system and is responsible for financing, operating and maintaining it. The solar array is partially funded by a US Treasury Department grant as well as a Maryland Energy Administration grant. The project also plans to take advantage of Maryland’s Solar Renewable Energy Certificate (SREC) market. Altus Power Management will manage the sale of the SRECs.

“We are very excited to have completed this project and look forward to providing clean energy to Adat Shalom and the region for many years to come” said Tom Athan, co-founder and managing partner of Altus Power.
