Powering New York State With Community Solar

The state of New York is committed to making solar energy accessible and affordable for all. In fact, the state recently announced they have become “the top community solar market in the country with more than one gigawatt of community solar installed and operational — enough to serve 209,000 homes across the state.” This milestone is largely the result of NYSERDA's NY-Sun program, a major state initiative to increase solar development while reducing costs, thereby making solar energy more accessible to homes, businesses and communities throughout New York.

Here at Altus Power, we are proud to play a role in that progress as we continue expanding our Community Solar presence in the Empire State.

Homeowners and renters alike throughout New York state can sign up for Community Solar through Altus Power and start saving on their electricity costs. To see if you’re eligible, go to join.altuspower.com and enter your zip code and utility provider. If we don’t have a solar project in your area yet or if the project near you is already full, be sure to join our waitlist so we can reach out when you become eligible.

For residents living in the New York metro area who have Consolidated Edison as their utility, we are developing a new solar array in partnership with Morgan Stanley that is currently under construction atop a new carport located at the company’s campus in Purchase, NY. This solar project will soon be generating clean, renewable energy for the Morgan Stanley Westchester campus as well as the surrounding New York City metro area. Qualifying residents can sign up now to reserve their spot in advance.

Our new Westchester solar array at Morgan Stanley will join our existing Zerega Community Solar project, which currently generates clean electricity locally on the rooftop of a large self-storage facility in the Bronx, and our recent addition in Castleton, NY, which serves National Grid customers throughout New York State. Together, these Community Solar projects offer qualifying New Yorkers throughout the state, from all income levels, the opportunity to save on their electricity costs and support clean energy in their community.

We are proud to have a strong Community Solar presence in New York and look forward to serving even more customers throughout the state. If you’re interested in joining, head over to join.altuspower.com to start your application. If you have any questions or need help signing up, please reach out to our customer team any time at hello@altuspower.com.

Can You Join Community Solar If You’re on Utility Budget Billing?

If you’re interested in Community Solar, it’s important to note that we typically do not recommend joining if you’re enrolled in your utility company’s budget billing program. To get the benefits of Community Solar as it is designed — and there are many benefits, as you’ll see below — a utility customer should cancel their budget billing payment plan with their utility before enrolling with Altus Power.

Moving to a New Home? Here’s How to Transfer Your Community Solar Subscription

Community Solar subscribers who are relocating can often transfer their subscription if they let Altus know of their upcoming move. To keep saving with Community Solar, your new home must be in a zip code and utility zone serviced by Altus Power. We currently have Community Solar projects across multiple states and utility companies, so chances are good there’s a Community Solar project nearby.
